I offer a friendly and down-to-earth approach to counselling/psychotherapy, providing a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk. With training and experience in the main evidence-based psychotherapies, I work flexibly and collaboratively, tailoring therapy to the needs of each person I see.

I enjoy working creatively and have found that it can be enormously helpful in encouraging and facilitating thought processes and accessing more fluid thinking. Sometimes this can take the form of creative exercises, painting or drawing with the left hand for example and visualisations. I am always careful to take the lead from my clients, and only suggest these types of exercises if you have shown an interest in working like this.

Many benefits are available from participating in psychotherapy. Often it is helpful just to know that someone understands. Therapy can provide a fresh perspective on something. Many people find therapy to be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, and the hassles of daily life.

Whether you are suffering from anxiety, depression, feeling low or if you have a specific issue you want to address, counselling can be a positive and empowering experience for anyone. Attaining a better understanding of yourself and your personal goals and values is also empowering. Developing skills for improving your relationships or finding resolution to specific issues or concerns can be a relief. Finding new ways to cope with stress and anxiety or managing your anger can be life changing. Learning how to listen to others, and have others listen to you, getting “unstuck” from unhealthy patterns – breaking old behaviours and develop new ones and discovering ways to improve your self-esteem and boost self-confidence is you are investing in you.

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you’ve faced, there’s nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need or want it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you’re at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.

People have many different motivations for coming to psychotherapy. Some may be going through a major life transition (unemployment, divorce, new job, etc.), or are not handling stressful circumstances well. Some people need assistance managing a range of other issues such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, addictions, phobias, relationship problems, spiritual conflicts and creative blocks. Therapy can help provide some much needed encouragement and help with skills to get them through these periods. Others may be at a point where they are ready to learn more about themselves or want to be more effective with their goals in life.

It is well known by mental health professionals that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behaviour patterns that curb our progress. Your therapist offers you the opportunity to explore difficult feelings within a safe and confidential space. Please make an appointment now.
